Checked on 21 October 2026 against Update 6.0 (build 0.10.0.653173), Steam app 1783560 by Channel37.

Short answer. Since Update 6.0 of The Last Caretaker went live on 19 October [S1], the problems players report most in the threads cited below are a boat that circles or crawls, a ship horn that will not stop, weapons that no longer take a cable, and crashes at startup. Players' workarounds: scrap the desks and shelves in the boat's lower hold, dismantle the horn, and raise the Body Socket Interact setting.

Before you try anything

  • Back up your saves. The save folder locations and restore steps are on the unstuck and EA tools page.
  • Turn on auto-save. "Enable auto-save: In your gameplay settings, turn on auto-save." [S5] Players say the default interval is long: starlight78sso (20 October), "It does autosave, but rarely." [S38]; Cpt. Noro (20 October) suggests "you should probably reduce the auto save interval to sth around 5-10mins (I go with 10)" [S36].
  • Remove mods. Channel37's support page warns about mods after updates; the warning and the save-backup steps are on the crash and performance page.
  • Live build 0.10.0.653173. The live build has the same number, 0.10.0.653173, as beta RC9 of 16 October [S2][S1], so every RC fix in the patch notes was already in the game players received. Some RC lines touch nearby areas, such as RC8: "Fixed cables sometimes failing to connect to modules." [S1] RC1 and RC2 fixed crashes in other situations [S1].

The official support page is dated "Last updated: 8 September 2026" [S5]. That date is earlier than the Update 6.0 release on 19 October [S1], so its sections predate the update.

The boat circles, pulls or crawls

What players report. arokh (19 October), with a 200-hour save: "its become impossible to play with the boat literally spinning in place." [S7] activated95b (19 October): "My ship now tops out at 7 KPH and always wants to make a slight turn to the right." [S8] captnmax (20 October): "my boat is doing a hard right turn, as if I have the D key continually pressed." [S7] Illithar (19 October) had a boat that pulled the other way: "once I got back my boat would start pulling left away from it's moorings." [S7] xxMilikenxx (19 October): "anchor has developed its own mind, as a result ship wont go forwards, only reverse." [S9]

The workaround most posted: clear the lower hold. Chimi AK, 19 October: "I went and scrapped all the desks and shelving in the room and it appears to have fixed the issue." [S8] fowtom (19 October) replied: "This resolved my issue with the boat misbehaving." [S8] Which room? starlight78sso (20 October): "The new update made it where you can now scrap everything in that room behind the recycler, that's the desk they are talking about." [S10] IceV (20 October) put it short: "Remove the tables and shelves in the hold" [S12]. This only became possible in Update 6.0, whose notes say "Boat tables can now be dismantled." [S1]

ogdapuss (20 October) passed on a more specific tip: "if you have a hull stabiliser under the desk in the back room of the boat, scrap the desk." [S10]

It does not work for everyone. emgotcha77 (20 October): "Update: dismantling all stabilisers didn't help" [S10]. Matd (19 October) still sees a drift afterwards: "ship does keep gradually turning to the right for some weird reason, however the game is finally playable at least!" [S8] larry_walsh (20 October) sailed again but wrote "I do not know why this made a difference, or if it is the thing that solved it" [S10]. rychard (20 October) jumped in the water, moved the anchors by hand, and then dismantled the tables and stabilisers [S11].

Other explanations. Hairy eyeball (20 October): "the only time my boat goes left or right is when there is a strong wind" [S7]. starlight78sso (20 October): "I started a fresh game with the update, and I havent had a single issue you guys are mentioning." [S7] A slow drift to the left was reported during the beta, before release; Thiesen (12 October, Update 6.0 public beta) answered "Yes it does always slowly drift to the left..." [S14]. And one player's boat got faster: Typhoid Mary (19 October), "while at 80% throttle, I am now getting 50km/hr." [S13]

Official status. No Update 6.0 note names boat steering, drift or speed [S1]. The Update 5.5 notes list a boat-physics fix in hotfix 2 (10 September): "Fixed boat engines incorrectly simulating physics." [S39] The support page's general advice still applies: "If your boat starts acting strangely, try removing any objects built on the hull." [S5] For a boat that is stuck, sinking or flying, it offers the -ea launch option, which adds an Early Access entry to the pause menu with "Relocate boat" [S5]. Back up first.

The horn will not stop

The same stuck horn was reported in the Update 6.0 public beta [S16]. Fabian_KL, 20 October: "I honked the horn once, and it hasn't stopped since, even when I press it again." [S17] NetKnight (19 October) tried the button, cutting power and reloading: "Button doesn't work, powering off doesn't work, reloading the game doesn't work." [S15]

What stopped it:

  • Dismantle the horn module. NetKnight (19 October): "I dismantled the horn and I've got silence, finally. However, as a new bug, the horn is still there visually." [S15] Grizz (19 October) did the same with the dismantler tool and wrote "Give it a go, it worked for me!" [S16]
  • Verify game files. xXREAPERXx (19 October): "I fixed it by using the, verify integrity of game files." [S16]
  • The dashboard horn button. Hells_Razer (20 October) suggests the button left of the anchor button [S17]; Fabian_KL says it had already been pressed [S17].

During the Update 6.0 public beta, LegioN (9 October) found that nothing worked except leaving the beta branch [S16]. The Update 6.0 notes only say "The Horn module now shows its durability." [S1]

Weapons won't refuel or take a cable

Symptom. SquirrelVenom, 19 October: "the V action is now gone. I can't refuel weapons anymore. The F to attach cable doesn't do anything." [S24] fragwitz (20 October): "used to get F to connect to the flamethrower and V to connect to the backpack.. only getting F now , and it won't connect.." [S27]

Fix 1: the Body Socket Interact setting. SquirrelVenom found the cause in Settings: the Body socket interact setting was "set to 0. This disables the ability to use the same button for 2 interactions." With it at 0.50, the Hold "option appears and it works." [S24] Andromèdá, the next day: "I just found out that a MINIMUM interact time MUST be 0.14!" At 0.14 or more, holding F connects the electric pistol and tapping F the electric rifle [S25]. The setting is under SETTINGS, GAME [S25].

Fix 2: empty your back. stpaul_ld50 (20 October): "In 6.0, I've found I have to remove anything I'm carrying on my back (heater, human pod, etc) before I can get my backpack battery to connect to the electric rifle." [S25] Jerrai (20 October): "if i fiddle with removing and re-equipping a backpack it works again." [S26]

Not fixed for everyone. WallY (20 October): "I have it tested with more refill Time also set it on 0,5 and it dosn't work." [S26] TiiMe2tell (19 October) wrote that the key-press slider in the settings did not fix flamethrower and Rhino grinder refuelling: "Nope, not it." [S25] Thiesen (19 October) says you now have to long press ("Now you have to Long press...") [S24]. SquirrelVenom's 30 second hold failed until the Body Socket Interact setting was changed [S24]. None of these threads has a Channel37 reply saying whether the change is intended.

Leave weapons off the hold table. Rodrigo (20 October) left a flamethrower and electric rifle on the lower-deck table: "when i try to pick them back up after a while, they become a bunch of scrap." [S37] Darke (20 October) says objects that clip through solid boat geometry are disassembled on load: "Stuff that clips through solid objects tends to get disassembled on load." [S37] Darke adds that the geometry changes that let players remove ship parts may have done the same [S37]. jetah (20 October) suggests a chest or your inventory instead [S37].

Build controls: both mouse buttons say rotate

resechfamily (20 October): "I have to hit the escape button twice then the right mouse button will turn from rotate to build." [S28] starlight78sso (20 October) adds that E and Q rotate and E builds, unless you changed your keybinds [S28].

Crashes at startup or after a few minutes

Startup crashes. Startup crash errors and the launch options players tried for them are collected on the crash and performance page.

Crash after a few minutes. shewter1 (21 October), about 350 hours played: "With update 6 I can't run for more than 10 minutes and a lot of the time less than 5", with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION and a GPU crash dump, after trying ray tracing on and off, DLSS, HDR and verifying files [S21]. The only reply, from jetah (21 October), is a generic troubleshooting list: verify game files, disable XMP, run System File Checker, reinstall GPU drivers [S21].

Stutter. Stutter reports and the official first steps for crashes and performance problems are on the crash and performance page.

Linux freezes

Linux freeze and performance reports are collected on the crash and performance page.

Green sky at dawn and dusk (AMD)

Players with Radeon cards, several on the RX 9070 XT, see the sky turn green at dawn and dusk [S31][S32]. The main thread was opened on 12 October in the Update 6.0 public beta, so the problem predates the release [S31]. Thane_Ragnar (20 October) ties it to one driver: "This goes away as soon as I go back to an older driver and comes back when installing the 26.9.2." [S31] John Smallberries (20 October) cleared it with a clean driver reinstall: "reinstallation is how i fixed my AMD RX9070xt" [S31]. Deleting the shader cache did not help Thane_Ragnar [S31]. jbarbourx2 (21 October), also on a 9070 XT, wrote "this happens on Windows 11 but not on Linux" [S31]. DarkWaterSong (21 October): "I can play it on Windows 11 Pro with no issues with 7800X3D and 7800TX on 26.10.1" [S31].

Quests that will not complete

  • The Forbidden Fruit and Before the Archives stay at the last step. XreZerv (14 October, Update 6.0 public beta): they "remain stuck at the final objective to claim a Restoration Seed, although I have collected the respective seeds." [S29] XreZerv adds that the Forbidden Fruit problem already happened on Update 5.5 [S29]. Three more players added the same report on 15 and 16 October in the beta, one of them on RC9, and two more did on 20 and 21 October after release [S29]. The thread has no reply offering a fix [S29]. The official advice for stuck quests is "Close and relaunch the game or recover a previous auto-save" [S5].
  • Relight the way. Grizzly (21 October): "the relay is active but the quest won't complete." [S30] fragwitz (21 October) has the same problem on a new game [S30].
  • Beta saves. The support page warns: "Playing the same save in beta and public builds can sometimes cause quests to not progress correctly or finish fully" [S5].

Other reports

  • Fewer sharks and buoys. stpaul_ld50 (19 October): "Now you always get them near your ship when you load the game, and near POIs, but not so much in the middle of nowhere unless you save your game and restart." [S33] cpoce2007 (20 October) got sharks back by exiting and re-entering [S33]. Thiesen still sees sharks far from the boat [S33].
  • Lazarus capsule dismantled in its rack. Andromèdá (20 October): "After the update was released, I went back to Lazarus later, and the Lazarus capsule had been dismantled into individual parts." [S34] Rebuilding the capsule next to the rack pulled the seed in [S34]. Darke (20 October) says it also happened in Update 5.5 [S34]. The support page's rule still holds: "Always carry a seed to pod, never a pod to a seed" [S5].
  • Dismantling a shark you stand on. Grsav (21 October): "when the process finished i got sucked into the water like i went a t least 200-300 meter deep" [S35]. Wasntme (21 October) had the same and now dives under the shark instead [S35].
  • Falling through the ocean. Osmium, 20 October: "I've played for dozens of hours now and had never encountered the bug where players fall through the world when jumping into the ocean. Until today when 6.0 came out, that is." [S36] larry_walsh (20 October), replying, had seen it "just a couple days ago" [S36]. starlight78sso (19 October) wrote in another thread that falling in the ocean "has been an ongoing issue" [S8], so it may not be new in Update 6.0. Save before you dive.
  • Cold, heaters and the gyro. Freezing far from the north, heaters missing from the build menu and a gyro that will not lift in the cold are covered on the cold and heating page.

How to report a bug so it gets fixed

Channel37's Update 6.0 announcement says "If something breaks, the most useful reports still include:" what you were doing, what you expected, what actually happened, steps to reproduce, a screenshot or video, and your save file [S4]. They say they read "Steam Discussions, Discord reports, crash data, Community Alpha and Beta feedback, and reports sent through the game." [S4] The support page names Discord: "Head to the #support-forum channel and create a post" [S5].
