Checked on 21 October 2026 against Update 6.0 (build 0.10.0.653173), Steam app 1783560 by Channel37. This is a fan wiki page about The Last Caretaker.
The Update 6.0 notes contain no rocket, launch or payload line [S5]. They do add a Methane Extractor and single-use methane canisters [S5]. Every rocket line below comes from earlier patches or from players.
Short answer. You need a grown human in a Lazarus pod, a payload module on top of the rocket, and the rocket filled with oxygen, methane and power; players read the panel as 12,000 L oxygen, 3,000 L methane and 60 kilowatt hours [S18]. Then start the launch from launch control, as Golden Dragon (16 November 2025) puts it [S21]. The Moses authorization required prompt appears at the Last Listener Station [S9].
What a launch needs
- A human, to get in. Chilero's Place (video) says at [0:32] that the human "will be placed here in" order "to unlock the door" at the first area [S13]. Without one, the panel reads "No human detected." in the "Not Authorized" video at [62:21] [S9]
- Power in every area. Channel37's support page: "Exodus should have power generation and power storage in each area" [S6]. See the next section.
- A payload module on top. It is used up on each flight. Cpt. Noro (16 October 2026, Update 6.0 public beta): "You need to build a new one each time the rocket comes back." [S15] snorkybits (16 October 2026, Update 6.0 public beta): "place the building blueprint on the top of the rocket and click build" [S15], and Stratus (16 October 2026, Update 6.0 public beta) adds "Don't forget to retract the platform." [S15] The payload module came with Update 5.0, whose announcement says "Rocket Payload Module fabrication and tuning expands the rocket preparation loop." [S3] Before that, says the human-creation guide video (shows the payload module), the top just popped back on after a launch [S14].
- Fuel and power. One let's-play episode (video, shows content from after Update 5.5) reads the panel aloud at [9:39]: "It needs 12,000 L of" oxygen, "3,000 L of methane, and 60" kilowatt hours of power [S18]. Durandian (video) says at [12:30]: "60 kW hour is exactly 10" batteries, then counts more on screen because one is the player's own [S19]. How to make the methane and oxygen is on the fuel and gas page.
- Hook up the rocket. Chilero (video): the left connector is electrical, "the middle is the methane", and the oxygen goes "around the back" [S13]. One oxygen tank works, "it'll just take longer", at [8:40]; the video uses two tanks [S13].
- Load the humans at the top. "You do have to place your human up at" the top level of the rocket, then the control panel shows "what's missing, what's needed." at [15:06] [S13]
- Launch from launch control. Durandian (video): says at [15:43] that the launch sequence does not activate "from here" and "The launch sequence activates from there." [S16] Golden Dragon (16 November 2025) names launch control as the place to launch [S21]. The console there runs through startup checks for propellant, power, ground, payload and weather before the launch sequence, in a video that shows content from after Update 5.5 [S17]. After "request launch" you still have a chance to abort, says the human-creation guide video at [51:12] [S14].
How many humans fit in one launch
Sources disagree.
| Says | Who | When |
|---|---|---|
| clpierson45 chose to send three humans on every rocket so that all three floors of the reward pod would be full, and says this was before the Transposium update. This is the player's own habit, not a stated capacity limit. | clpierson45 | 2 April 2026 [S24] |
| "the rocket only holds" three | Bemo Guinness video | |
| "There's a capacity" "for three Lazarus pods on the rocket." | let's-play episode video | |
| "four pod sockets in the rocket as well." / "It used to be there was only three pods" | human-creation guide video | |
| "The rocket is intended to carry up to 4 Lazarus Pods per launch." | wiki copy captured before 21 October | page marked build 0.8.5.651238 [S23] |
| "You need 4 humans well technically one but make 4." | Monty | 13 October 2026, Update 6.0 public beta [S22] |
Update 3.5 did add "New Human Pods were added to the Hall of Humanity and the rocket areas." [S1] Count the sockets in your own rocket. Chilero (video) notes that each human sent gives its own reward level in the returning capsule [S13].
Why a launch gets stuck
Power cuts out between areas. The official support page: "Exodus is so large that if players try to power the whole site from only one power" source, the power state can leave the Caretaker stuck or floating; the fix is generation and storage in each area [S6]. Th-233 (24 December 2025): "exodus has like 3 isolated power grids." [S20] Kikinaak (25 December 2025) explains: the unload distance is long enough that "there are 3 zones, the launch platform, arrivals, and mission control." [S20]
Launch control has no power. hitoristr (17 November 2025) found the rear segment's junction box switched off: "The third screenshot shows that the junction box is disabled by pressing the button" [S21]. Golden Dragon (16 November 2025) reminds: "third - launch control, you launch rocket here." [S21] Launch control is "very isolated", in the words of a let's-play episode (video) at [18:38] [S17]. Chilero (video) powers it with cables, "the cheapest option", at [12:38] [S13], and warns that a cable somewhere in Exodus sometimes disconnects [S13].
Lifts stop. Triss (24 December 2025) suggests: "Turn off the main power switches, save the game, go to the main menu" and continue the game, then turn the main power switches back on [S20]. This does not always work. Alpha (25 December 2025) needed a full game restart, and Dailao (24 December 2025) says "Reloading fixes it sometimes but not always." [S20]
The panel waits for payload. You have not rebuilt the payload module, or not loaded the humans [S14][S15].
The quest did not move on after a reload. Shane (21 January 2026) gives two options: travel to the Last Listening Post and complete it without relaunching, or do another launch, which "will move the quest onwards" [S12]. The original poster, Slyve (21 January 2026), had reloaded a save made right before the first launch [S12].
Patches that fixed rocket problems.
| Update | Fix |
|---|---|
| Update 3.5 (15 April 2026) | Fixed "rocket launch progression" among other quest issues [S1] |
| Update 5.0 (24 June 2026) | "Fixed a freeze that could occur when receiving rocket mission rewards." "Fixed Rocket quest progression and task persistence issues." [S2] |
| Update 5.5 (31 August 2026) | "Fixed rocket capsule crafting becoming blocked after landing." "Fixed players being unable to build a rocket payload when loading an older save." "Fixed the rocket countdown continuing after a launch was aborted." "Fixed incorrect seed quantities being delivered after rocket launches." "Fixed the rocket walkway lever not requiring power." "Fixed the Exodus human pod not always snapping into place." [S4] |
| Update 6.0 (19 October 2026) | No rocket, launch or payload line [S5] |
If a quest step will not complete after a launch, see the council and committees page.
Moses authorization required: what is known
Where you see it. In a let's-play episode titled "Not Authorized" (video), the player is at the Last Listener Station and reads the screen at [17:25]: "missing requirements. Moses" / "authorization required." [S9] At [25:19] the player says they have to "get that door open, which means we got to figure out where that uh authorization is" coming from [S9]. Older posts call the place "The Last Listening Post" [S8].
The question is old and unanswered. August631 (8 November 2025): "In the last lisntening post, I need Moses Authorization, where do I get it ?" [S8]; nobody answered. caractere75 (14 March 2026): "can't figure out how to get Moses's authorization" [S7]. The replies were hints only. Thiesen (14 March 2026): "You know of Exodus Station?" [S7] and, the next day (15 March 2026), "put some stuff in that and send It" [S7]. Xanman64 (15 March 2026): "Not all terminals are exactly like the one on your ship" [S7]. That thread ends there.
What points to the first launch. The "Not Authorized" player searched the whole station: "There's no terminal." at [43:31] [S9] The player concluded that the authorization "is going to have to come from" somewhere else at [43:40] [S9], and that "I came here before I should have." at [43:11] [S9] At [47:51] of that video the objective still says to escort a human to Exodus Station, so that save had not launched yet [S9]. A walkthrough of the Last Listener mission (HeRo Survival Guides) says at [0:13] that you get the Last Listener mission "after you do launch the rocket." [S10] A player who launched three humans first and then visited the station (video) never mentions the prompt [S11].
Unproven. Taken together these point to launching your first rocket before you visit. But no video or post available for this page shows the door opening, or says what the player did to open it. Channel37's notes, FAQ and support page never mention Moses authorization.
Not the same thing. The "MOSES Field Reserve Program" is a separate quest that Update 5.5 added at Warehouse Alpha: "The MOSES Field Reserve Program quest has been added to Warehouse Alpha." [S4] The rocket console at Exodus is also branded MOSES; a let's-play episode (video) reads it at [30:09] as "Moses rocket system" [S17]. Other locked doors in the game use a terminal command such as "Acquire Research Outpost Theta-9 Authorization" [S27].
Sending a teddy or money to orbit counts toward achievements; see the achievements page.
