Checked on 21 October 2026 against Update 6.0 (build 0.10.0.653173), Steam app 1783560 by Channel37. Forum dates are UTC.
Shadow (1 May 2026) lists its needs as Strength 130, Discipline 40, Leadership 30 and Focus 35 [S1]. Shadow's recipe from 1 May 2026 is 1 Cartridge, 6 Commander's log, 2 Meditation, 4 Ultimate Genesis and 4 Mitochondrial surge [S1]. The fan site thelastcaretakergame.org seats the job in the Power & Security committee at level 3 [S8].
What the Station Protector is
In The Last Caretaker, Update 3 (18 March 2026) added committees, "allowing humans in space to occupy committee seats and perform actions through a committee terminal" [S10]. The Update 6.0 notes, including RC1 to RC9, have no line naming the Station Protector [S11].
BaneTheChipmunk (27 June 2026) cited the wiki Humans page for a job type called "Military (Door Jammer, Guard, Station Protector, Guardian of Humanity)" [S4]. A fan calculator calls the same four jobs Protector and rates the Station Protector Tier 3 [S7]. The calculator page header names Update 6.0 as its game version [S7].
Requirements players and fan sites list
| Who | Date | Figures as written | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shadow, Hooman cook book | 1 May 2026 | Strength 130; Discipline 40; Leadership 30; Focus 35 | [S1] |
| Monty, Human Guide and Links | 8 October 2026 | Strength 130; Discipline 40; Leadership 30; Focus 35 | [S2] |
| thelastcaretakergame.org, reviewed 5 October 2026 | July 2026 screens, before Update 5.5 | Height 180 cm; Strength 130; Discipline 40 / 41; Focus 35; Leadership 30 | [S6] |
| thelastcaretaker-tools.com calculator | Discipline > 40; Focus > 35; Leadership > 30; Strength > 130; Height > 210; Weight > 20; Life Expectancy > 10 | [S7] |
Monty's list is a different post from Shadow's but gives the same figures [S2].
Two figures disagree.
- Discipline. The fan site reports 40 from an in-game screen of July 2026 and 41 from a wiki page revision read on 5 October 2026 [S6].
- Height. The fan site lists 180 cm [S6]. The calculator lists > 210 [S7]. BaneTheChipmunk's grown human in a failed run (below) showed Height 180 cm [S4].
Recipes reported
| Who | Date | Items | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shadow, Hooman cook book | 1 May 2026 | 1 Cartridge, 6 Commander's log, 2 Meditation, 4 Ultimate Genesis, 4 Mitochondrial surge | [S1] |
| StormkilGaming video, auto-captions | three Hyper-Evolution [0:43], five Mitochondrial Surge [0:48], six Commander's logs and two "picos" [0:56] | [S3] | |
| thelastcaretakergame.org, food items alone | reviewed 5 October 2026 | "Fewest food, all foods": 4 Mitochondrial Surge + 2 Ultimate Genesis (6 items); "Food up to skill tier 11": 36 Physique Fuel (36 items) | [S6] |
Shadow's recipe. Shadow (1 May 2026) wrote that "These recipes are not the only one for a profession" [S1]. gamedex (1 May 2026) wrote "Recipe is right on the money" for a Station Protector needed for the third committee they were building, and in the same post said they "had to use guitars" because they had no meditation left [S1]. gamedex (2 May 2026) described this as the recipe "minus the meditation" with more Guitar for Focus, and still got the job [S1]. gamedex limited that report to "the Resource Director and Station Protector" and advised a backup save before cooking [S1]. Shadow (1 May 2026) also wrote that multiple memories on one line "might mean the memories are interchangeable" [S1]. Shadow (20 June 2026), replying to a post that linked the thelastcaretaker-tools.com calculator, wrote "I won't test them" [S1]. That is the calculator in the requirements table above. On Commander's log, watermonster (20 April 2026) wrote in a Guardian of Humanity thread, as an example, "Commanders Log (Discipline +7, Communication 8 )" [S13]. That post is from the Guardian of Humanity thread and is not a Station Protector recipe [S13].
The video. In StormkilGaming's video the narrator says that tweaking the recipe can give a biosphere director, an energy engineer or a guard at [0:30] [S3]. The narrator says the pico item has four different stats and changing it "can throw things off really, really bad" at [1:10] [S3]. At [1:47] the narrator says the build gave a Station Protector [S3].
The fan site's food line. The fan site says "Food supplies the physical attributes; memory items must meet the psychological targets shown with each plan" [S6].
A build that failed. BaneTheChipmunk (27 June 2026) added 25 Physique Fuel, 1 Hyper-Evolution and 1 Nanite Infusion with the Oath Token [S4]. The grown human had Height 180 cm and Strength 131, and the job was an Energy Engineer [S4]. In the post: "This should be a Station Protector, but I get an Energy Engineer." [S4] For the Oath Token itself, see Artifacts and the Oath Token.
Why another job can come out
The cases below are player reports and opinions, not Channel37 statements.
Belle (14 October 2026, during the Update 6.0 public beta). Belle tried the Continuity Token, an Ash notebook and other recipes, and removed logic stats, but still got an Energy Engineer [S5]. In a second post Belle wrote: "I ignored the tracking which made Door jammer and Guard the likely outcome and got Station Protector instead." [S5] Belle added: "as long as you keep logic out and discipline and focus higher than the muscle guys, you get what you need." [S5] This is one player's report with no recipe, and the thread has no other reply [S5].
A different statement on tracking. Shadow has written that the profession highlight has no effect on the result; that post is on Growing humans.
Two explanations for the Energy Engineer. Grimble Grumble (27 June 2026) wrote that the Oath Token run failed because "BOTH require a high strength (120 vs 130)" and advised other memories for Discipline, Focus and Leadership with no Logic [S4]. turvarya (10 July 2026) wrote in Shadow's thread: "The distinction is that only same highest tier makes it random" [S1]. BaneTheChipmunk replied that "the game gives you the highest possible human you've met the minimum stats for" [S4]. In the same post BaneTheChipmunk wrote that an Energy Engineer needs "Height 30cm and Strength 120, while a Station Protector needs Height 180cm and Strength 130" [S4]. That sits awkwardly with the first post of the same thread, where Height 180 cm and Strength 131 gave an Energy Engineer [S4]. The calculator's Energy Engineer card lists Logic > 30 and Strength > 120, and its Station Protector card has no Logic line [S7].
A lower job in the same line. BaneTheChipmunk wrote that the Lazarus shows the job changing as stats rise: "Door Jammer, then Guard, then Station Protector, then finally Guardian of Humanity" [S4]. The calculator lists Guard at Discipline > 15, Focus > 12, Leadership > 10 and Strength > 120 [S7]. Monty lists Guard at Strength 120, Discipline 15, Leadership 10 and Focus 12 [S2].
Interrupted growth. One player has written that a power or water cut during growth makes the result random; that report, and Channel37's note on pausing growth, are on Growing humans. For power and water on the rack, see Lazarus power and water.
The committee and what the seat does
The fan site (page last updated 11 October 2026, during the Update 6.0 public beta) lists Power & Security as a Tier 1 committee with Energy Engineer (3), Resource Director (3), Station Quartermaster (2) and Station Protector (3) [S8]. It says each committee needs four grown humans aged 18 or older, one of each listed profession [S8]. Shadow's and Monty's lists file the job under POWER & SECURITY too [S1][S2].
An older wiki capture (page dated 13 July 2026) lists the Energy Engineer and the Resource Director as its two members, with Minimum Age: 18 and Tier: 1 [S9]. That conflicts with the fan site's four members [S8][S9]. The same capture describes the committee in lore terms: "It decides load shedding, emergency power allocation, security postures, curfews, and response thresholds" [S9]. That is flavour text, not a stated game effect [S9].
The one Channel37 line cited here on the system is Update 3's seat-and-terminal sentence [S10]. How seats fill and what ages they need is on Council and committees.
